For sure Pinehurst has dropped out of the top echelon of golf destinations that it once was. It is a shame because it once was great. Jeff J Waynesboro, VA 4 contributions.

Great facility, a little disappointed in 2. Just went down for the day to play 2. Positives: Great service from the time you walk onto the facility. Beautiful, meticulously groomed grounds with super practice areas, well-stocked pro-shop and quaint dining. Had a turkey and cheese sandwich prior to our round which was good piled high with turkey and surprisingly economical for a resort.

Can't hardly beat the history and nostalgia of Pinehurst and there are pictures and other appointments throughout which remind you of such. Just can't get that same feel at many other venues. Negatives: Famed course 2 left me feeling a little underwhelmed and wanting a something more.

Just felt like I basically played the same hole over and over again with the only difference being the yardage. Conditions were excellent, greens rolled great, but just was a little boring for my tastes.

With the exception of holes 4 and 5, just really didn't get too excited. Maybe my expectations were too high, but I like a little more pizzazz from a course in this price range. Our caddie, though a nice guy, seemed a little disinterested throughout the round too. Would like to go back, stay at the resort and play some of the other courses there just to compare. It is always a great experience to play where the pros have contested such huge championships and walk the same ground.

But, not sure for me the history can overcome the course itself. Just my two cents We played three courses, 2, 4 and 8. We started with 4 and it is an enjoyable well kept course that served as a good warm up for the main event. It is not tricky and works for golfers of all levels. The dome shaped greens are a little troubling but overall it is fair. The famous number 2 is the least attractive in my opinion with all of the natural sand and waste everywhere, but you don't lose balls very easily and the caddies see that you are pointing in the right direction.

It is a bucket list type of course and not one you would play every week. Number 8 was actually our favorite. It is set in its own grounds with a separate club house and is just gorgeous. It is interesting with enough hills and other twists and turns to be challenging but still feel fair.

I would play this one again in a heartbeat and all of the group agreed. Must visit for die hard golfers. So, first of all, we obviously love Pinehurst, considering we invested in our vacation home here this year.

It was a 20 year project, but we finally made it happen. We are members of Pinehurst Country Club, and this review is a very quick overview of the 9 courses. The greens are indicative of the dwarf Bermuda grass that is slowly replacing all,the bent grass on the courses.

It's a much more consistent putting surface that trying to get bent grass to grow here in the south. This course and 3 are often ignored, which is a shame. No rough here, just waste areas with tufts of tall grass interspersed here and there. Fairways are actually quite generous, and the course is not crazy long, even from the blue tees.

The greens, however, are another story. Humpy, lumpy, fast, and lots of places where the ball will race off by 20 yards or more, if you are not careful. Do it right, and get a caddie, it's worth the experience, and he will save you a lot of strokes and frustration.

Plus, it's a lot of fun. My favorite is Keith Silva, he will make you laugh and tell stories about Liverpool. Something like yards from the back tees, but wait till you play it.

Narrower than the other courses, and small versions of 2's greens, which makes them even trickier. In addition to offering one of the finest golf experiences in the. Pinehurst N. Southern Pines N. The oldest course in the Pinehurst area is the Southern Pines Golf …. On No.
